Instructor-of-Record (2021 - Present)
(Preceptor), Columbia Core Curriculum in Contemporary Civilization, Columbia University.

In the past year, I have been one of the ten graduate students that Columbia University selects every year to teach its nine-month-long flagship course, the Columbia Core Curriculum in Contemporary Civilization (CC). Being an independent preceptor for this course gave me the chance to design a syllabus and course in moral and political thought that is centered on classic texts that have shaped the Trans-Atlantic world and the places colonized by this world.

Excerpts from Teaching Evaluations: "Shaunna is super knowledgeable about all of the books we read and I appreciate how passionate she is about her work! She's also incredibly compassionate and accommodating. I've met with her for office hours outside of class various times and she does this every time we have a paper due. Could not have asked for a better instructor."

Teaching Assistant (2017 - 2019)

-
Spring 2019: Department of History, Columbia University - HSMEUN2811 South Asia II: Empire and Its Aftermaths with Anupama Rao.
Excerpt from Teaching Evaluations: "Shaunna was easily the best TA I've had at Columbia. She's enthusiastic, passionate, extremely knowledgable but also humble, and genuinely seemed interested in hearing from her students. She would really engage with your ideas and challenge them, forcing you to articulate yourself more clearly."

-
Fall 2018: Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies - MDESUN2030 Major Debates in the Study of Africa with Mahmood Mamdani
Excerpt from Teaching Evaluations: "Shaunna was very approachable and offered very insightful feedback on papers and on ideas expressed in weekly discussion posts. I learned a great deal from each 50-minute section because we consistently covered a wide range of topics and debates and Shaunna pushed us to think harder by posing difficult questions. We also were able to develop a nice class community, something that in my experience only happens when the TA is fun and engaging, when the material is engaging and when the class, in general, is inspiring."

Spring 2018: Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies - MDESW2650 Gandhi and His Interlocutors with Sudipta Kaviraj.
Excerpt from Teaching Evaluations: Shaunna led incredibly thought-provoking discussions that forced me to consider many different perspectives and new ideas. She was patient when introducing new topics and always made herself available to help.

Fall 2017: Department of Religion - ASCMV2357 Introduction to Indian Civilization with Rachel McDermott
Excerpt from Teaching Evaluations: "Shaunna was a very good TA but I most appreciate her because she has helped me continue my interest in the subject outside the class. When I told Shaunna I was particularly interested in fiction written by Indian authors, she sent me a list of 20+ of her favorite novels by Indian authors."
